Fresno HistoryCalifornia´s Central Valley is well-known as the world´s greatest garden. That´s because we provide nearly 1/4 of the country´s produce and our area´s history is as rich and diverse as the abundant agricultural fields that surround Fresno real estate. Here´s a crash course: Like many other California cities, it was the Gold Rush of 1849 that brought large numbers of settlers into our area. Fresno County was founded in 1856, with the nearby foothill town of Millerton (now found at the bottom of Millerton Lake) serving as the first county seat. The first railroad track ran through the Central Valley in 1872 and, with it, came the town of Fresno. The word "Fresno" is Spanish for ash tree, native to the Valley. Fresno real estate was incorporated on October 12, 1885.
